Screen Series
In an interview Iranian film director, Asghar Farhadi stated “people struggle with painstaking decisions and intricate compromises, anticipating one outcome but facing an entirely different result.” To me this also relates to the act of painting. Intent is a way to begin. As a dialog develops between myself and the work intention gives way. Marks I’ve made start to telegraph new possibilities of what to do next. In that way, the act of painting becomes a living expression that is not fixed on a particular outcome. Once the painting feels resolved and no longer asks for something more I recognize it as finished.
I develop a series to explore the permutations that exist from a single idea. For instance, my Screen Series began in response to life during pandemic lockdowns, when work, socializing and relaxation were all spent, primarily, in front of the computer. My Möbius Strip Series signifies this time as well when life felt like it was a perpetual loop of the same long day.

Nocturnes, Oceans and Lakes
These paintings explore strategies for solidifying impermanence by creating frameworks for seeing transitory and cyclical events that reveal ways in which nature, humans and materials interact with one another. By encapsulating an abstraction and a sense of reality I aim to preserve a reverence felt for both the human condition and the forces of nature.

Abyss Series
In part, my painting derives from naturally occurring events that tilt the landscape into abstraction. An area of a lake, that won’t freeze, even in the dead of winter, creating an enigmatic black shape.
